Position descriptions

Here you'll find short descriptions of all elected roles in BÄR.

  • The board

    Description

    The board is the highest decision-making body in BÄR and is ultimately responsible for the association's ongoing operations. It consists of eight members, click here to see who the current members are. All board members take part in regular board meetings (usually every second week), as well as member meetings every month.


    President

    As president you are mainly responsible for BÄRs business. This means that you are responsible for making sure that everything that BÄR is committed to gets done properly and that the organisation represents the will of all biology students. You call meetings, both board- and member meetings. The president also holds a place in the President’s council.


    Vice President

    The vice president carries out the tasks of the Chairman, if he or she for some reason is unable to do this. Moreover, Vice-President attend var. Zious meetings, including as a commissioner in the General Council of UTN. Responsible for and assisting with booking of lecture rooms and wards at the EBC.


    Treasurer

    The treasurer manages all of BÄRs monetary assets and is responsible for keeping track of incomes, expenses, payments and accounts and is responsible for ordering merch. The treasurer is also a board member of BÄR and he/she attends the UTN treasurer council.


    Secretary

    The Secretary keeps record of what happens on a member and board meetings. Secretary also functions as a board member BÄR. Also responsible for membership.


    Board member

    Together the president, vice-president, accountant, secretary and the three board members constitute BÄR’s board. BÄR’s board has the task of preparing documents etc. to board meetings. The board, for instance, writes a business plan and BÄR’s annual report. The board member is also responsible for taking care of the hay meadow outside the museum.


    Information responsible

    Keep the BÄR-members updated with relevant information. For example, meetings, open applications in UTN, or information from the university. This is done mainly through Facebook and Instagram. Other sources of information are posters, the website, or the display case outside of the Fries-hall which is the responsibility of the Information responsible. As information responsible, it’s also your responsibility to moderate the Facebook page Uppsala Biology Students, and make sure that the website is up to date.


    Representative for study welfare

    Keeps an eye on the study environment for other students. Also represents the biology students in the study welfare committee.


    Education responsible

    Makes sure the education is up to par. Represents the students in the bachelor council and education committee of UTN.

  • BIF (BÄR:s athletic association)

    Description

    BÄR's athletic association (abbreviated BIF) consist of its own board of three members, and their main task is to arrange various different sport activites. You can read more about BIF here.


    President

    The president is BIF’s main man (or woman) of their organization, makes sure that the business is running and develops as it should. He/she does the administrative work such as booking facilities and organizing events, putting together teams to matches and working together with UTN’s other sport representatives.


    Vice president

    Responsible for paying the bills and taking care of the money in the kiosk, is a member of the board and active in all kinds of BIF-activities.

  • Darwin (event responsible)

    Description

    Darwin and his/her finch are responsible for events in BÄR, such as parties and festive activites, nation crawls, and more. You can read more about Darwin here.


    Sir/madam Darwin

    Event manager of BÄR, who plans parties and festive activities like Selektionsfesten. Nobelför/efterfesten, painting of the coffee mugs and nation crawls.


    Darwin finch

    “Vice Sir Darwin”, helps the event manager with anything that is needed.

  • Other positions

    Description

    BÄR has many positions with various different responsibilities which vary from position to position, as you will see here below.


    Responsible for international inclusion

    Organizes events that are relevant to exchange students, letter of purpose, Language Café etc.


    Auditor

    Editor in chief for Bladet

    Responsible for putting together the student paper Bladet that is published at least once every semester.


    Flag bearer

    The flag bearer’s duty is to represent BÄR under social events and keep track of BÄR’s flag.


    Kiosk responsible (x2)

    Responsible for refilling and maintaining the kiosk.


    BÄR's nomination comittee (x2)

    Prepare and inform about how to apply for the various different positions in BÄR for the yearly meeting in December.

  • Representatives

    Description

    BÄR has representatives in a number of different boards within the Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science Students (UTN) and the Biology Education Centre (IBG). The representatives are there to make sure that BÄR and its members are aware of decisions that affect them, as well as offer input in such decisions. In each board, BÄR has two representatives and for each representative is a deputy who attends meetings in case the ordinary representative is unable to.


    Representatives for UTN:s council (FUM) (x2)

    The Union Council of UTN is the highest decision-making body of the union. The council consists of 33 members from the 19 sections of the union, and the seats are distributed based on number of members in each section. BÄR has two representatives who are there to take part in any decision made and represent BÄR by promoting the section's interests. For each representative is a deputy.     Representatives for the IBG board (x2)

    The IBG board is the main decision-making body of the Biology Education centre (IBG). Since most of BÄR's members study at IBG, any decision made there will affect the section, which is why BÄR has two representatives in the board. As with the other representatives, these are there to make sure that BÄR are aware of changes and decisions made, as well as offer input and present the interests of the section to the IBG board. Each representative has a deputy.


    Representatives for the Board for bachelor studies in biology (x2)

    The board for bachelor studies in biology discuss issues regarding the bachelor studies at IBG, and then present these for the IBG board to look into. Frequent topics are quality of education, course evalutaions, and student satisfaction. BÄR has two representatives on this board who are there to promote the will of the section and its members, as well as stay informed on what is discussed within the board. Each representative has a deputy.


    Representatives for the Board for master studies in biology (x2)

    The master programme council works, like the bachelor programme council, mostly with preparation of issues that are later discussed in for example the IBG-board meetings. Meetings usually concern offered course range or quality of education. BÄR has two representatives, each of which has a deputy.


    Representative for the Board for master studies in applied biotechnology

    The master programme council works, like the other councils, mostly with preparation of issues that are later discussed in for example the IBG-board meetings. Meetings usually concern offered course range or quality of education. BÄR has one representative, and one deputy.


    Representative for the MEME board

    MEME stands for Erasmus Mundus-master in evolutionary biology, and the programme council works, like the other councils, mostly with preparation of issues that are later discussed in for example the IBG-board meetings. Meetings usually concern offered course range or quality of education. BÄR has one representative, and one deputy


    Representative for the Master program in bio physics

    The master program council works, like the bachelor program council, mostly with preparation of issues that are later discussed in for example the IBG-board meetings. Meetings usually concern offered course range or quality of education.


    Representative for the election commitee of IBG

    As the representative in the election comittee of IBG, one represent BÄR and speak for the students within the section. The IBG board is the main decision-making body of IBG.
